Personal information we collect
When you create an account we collect your name and email address. If you make a contribution we record the amount, currency, and payment status (we never store card numbers, CVV codes, or other sensitive payment credentials). When you suggest a trail, log a trail completion, write a review, or save a trail to your wishlist, we store the information you provide (such as trail details, ratings, notes, and photos). We do not collect location data automatically — location features only activate when you explicitly use "Show Trails Near Me."
Why we collect it
Your name and email identify your account, let you sign in, and let us contact you about your account and contributions. Contribution records link your payment to your account so we can show your membership status. Trail, review, and completion data lets us provide the features you use (your log, wishlist, and submissions) and credit you for trails you add.
How we use your information
Your information is used to provide and improve the Dunedin Trails experience — displaying your trail completions, reviews, and wishlist, crediting you for trails you submit, managing your membership and contributions, and communicating with you about your account. We never sell your personal information to third parties.
Who we may share it with
Your account details are visible to app administrators for account and membership management. Trails, reviews, and photos you submit may be shown to other users according to the privacy settings you choose. Payment processing (once a provider is connected) is handled by a regulated payment provider under their own privacy policy. We do not sell or rent your personal information.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can view your profile information from the Membership Profile page. To correct your name or email, or to request deletion of your account and data, contact us through the details on the About page or use the account deletion option in settings. You can also delete your account at any time.
Trail submissions
Trails submitted by the community are reviewed and verified before being published. Your name may be displayed as credit on trails you submit. You can request removal of your submitted content at any time by contacting us.
Photos and reviews
Photos and reviews you submit may be visible to other users depending on the privacy settings you choose. Please do not upload photos of other people without their consent.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies to keep you logged in and basic analytics to understand how the app is used (such as which trails are popular). This helps us improve the experience for everyone.
Third-party services
The app uses map services (OpenStreetMap/Leaflet, LINZ Basemaps) and may link to external sites like Google Maps for directions. These services have their own privacy policies that govern your use of their platforms.
Data retention
Your trail completions, wishlist, reviews, submissions, and contribution records are retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your data at any time.
